Gastrointestinal Cancer Surgery

These operations include stomach, pancreas, small intestine, and colon surgery which are affected by gastrointestinal cancers.

  1. Gastric Cancer Surgery
  2. Gastric cancer is the second most common cancer in the world. This disease occurs 40 percent in the lower part, 40 percent in the middle part, 10 percent in the upper part, and it is combination in 10 percent of cases. The type of surgery for stomach cancer depends mainly on where the cancer is located. The surgeon may remove the whole stomach or only the part that has the cancer.

  3. Pancreatic Surgery
  4. Disorders of pancreas can be divided onto those caused by tumors and those caused by inflammation. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide. Only treatment for pancreatic cancer is surgery that may be used alone or in combination with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The surgeon may remove all or part of the pancreas. The extent of surgery depends on the location and size of the tumor, the stage of the disease and the patient’s general health

  5. Colon Surgery
  6. Nearly all colon cancers begin as noncancerous polyps which slowly develop into cancer. Cancer treatment depends on the type of cancer, the stage of the cancer, age, and health status which includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Treatments seek to remove the cancer and relieve painful symptoms that the cancer is causing. Surgery to remove part of or the entire colon is called colectomy which can be done with laparoscopy. During laparoscopic colectomy, a surgeon will remove the part of the colon containing the cancer as well as the marginal area close to the cancer through the small holes.
